Jim has more than 20 years of experience in the design and construction of building systems for institutional, industrial and commercial projects. Completing a sheet metal apprenticeship during college, Jim gained first-hand knowledge about the fabrication and installation of sheet metal products, HVAC equipment and associated hardware for large commercial, material handling and clean room applications. As an active member and founding co-chair of the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), Jim leads Larson Binkley's efforts in green building and sustainable design. He has also served as president of the Kansas City ASHRAE chapter. Jim's special interests include displacement ventilation, under-floor air conditioning, hydronic heating systems, energy recovery, building automation systems and systems integration. He has authored several articles and is a frequent presenter at national conferences on the importance of indoor air quality and energy-saving opportunities associated with these systems. Jim earned a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Missouri – Kansas City and is a licensed engineer in eight states. In addition to ASHRAE and USGBC, Jim is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and The Retail People.
